Bespoke
Bespoke means designed and made specifically for one client and one site, rather than selected from a standard range or repeated from a existing plan.
A bespoke home is shaped around a particular block, orientation, outlook and household, so the plan responds to where the sun falls, where the views are, where the neighbours look in, and how that family actually lives.
The contrast is with project or volume housing, where a proven plan is placed on a site with limited adjustment. Standard plans are efficient and predictable; a bespoke design costs more in design time but typically uses the site far better and avoids compromises that get lived with for decades.
Bespoke also describes elements within a home, such as purpose-made joinery, a stair designed as a sculptural piece, or a window set out precisely to frame one view.
