Facade

« Back to Glossary Index

In architecture, the term "facade" refers to the exterior face or front of a building, especially the principal front that faces a street or open space. It is often the most detailed and stylistically expressive part of the building, playing a key role in defining its architectural character and aesthetic appeal. In residential architecture, the facade includes elements such as the entryway, windows, cladding materials, rooflines, and decorative features. While it serves an aesthetic function, the facade also contributes to the building’s performance in terms of insulation, ventilation, and natural lighting.
