Final Certificate
A final certificate is the document issued at the completion of building work confirming that the work has been carried out in accordance with the approval and the relevant standards.
The exact name varies with the approval pathway and jurisdiction. In NSW residential work you will encounter the occupation certificate, which permits occupation, and the Certificate of Final Inspection issued by the principal certifier at the conclusion of the inspection regime.
Whatever it is called, the final certificate is the formal end of the regulatory process. It signals that the conditions of consent have been discharged and the mandatory inspections have been passed.
Retain these documents. They are routinely requested on sale, by insurers, and by any certifier assessing future works to the property.
