FAIR MEADOW

The concept for the granny flat was inspired by the coastal qualities of the local area. With a focus on maximizing views of the mountains and northern sun. The design was specifically tailored to accommodate a close family member of the client. With efficient use of space to maximize bedrooms and living areas.

A key design decision was to locate the stairs outside and provide parking for the main dwelling below. This allowed for better utilization of the floor area for larger bedrooms and spacious living areas. The circulation was carefully planned to be efficient, ensuring ease of movement between different areas of the dwelling.

To add interest to the facade, circular and square cutouts were incorporated. These architectural elements create a play of light and shadow. Furthermore, allowing for natural light to filter through and enhance the overall ambiance of the interior spaces.

James Hardie Linea Weatherboard Cladding was chosen for the exterior cladding of the granny flat. This choice of material not only connected well with the neighboring houses in the area, but also provided durability and low maintenance, making it a practical choice for a coastal environment.

The landscaping around the granny flat was also carefully considered. Driveway eco pavers were used to maximize the outdoor space, providing a functional and eco-friendly solution. Australian native species, such as Gymea Lilies, were selected for their beauty and minimal maintenance, adding a touch of local flora to the landscape and enhancing the overall aesthetics of the granny flat design.

Overall, the granny flat design successfully achieved the client’s vision of a coastal-inspired dwelling that maximizes space, captures stunning views, and incorporates efficient circulation and thoughtful material choices. The combination of architectural elements, material selection, and landscaping considerations resulted in a functional, aesthetically pleasing, and sustainable secondary dwelling that provides a comfortable living space for the close family member of the client.
