Oyster Bay

Set on a generous 1,317 m² site in Oyster Bay, this contemporary home was designed around the principle of Sheng Chi — the positive flow of energy and light through the home. Every space is oriented to invite calm, balance, and a clear connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape.

The design language is deliberately timeless and minimalist. Clean lines, considered proportions, and an honest expression of materials give the home a quiet confidence that will age gracefully rather than follow trends.

A refined material palette underpins the architecture: off-form and honed concrete provide a grounded, tactile base, while steel structure allows for open, light-filled living spaces. Hebel and render lend crisp, sculptural form, and a Colorbond roof keeps the silhouette sharp and contemporary.

Warmth and texture are introduced through natural timber, including tongue-and-groove herringbone detailing, set against Cinijus freeform natural stone walling that anchors the home to its site. Together these materials balance the precision of the contemporary form with a sense of craft and permanence.

Developed as a competition entry, Oyster Bay distils Francis Design's approach to contemporary residential architecture — energy, light, and longevity, expressed through restraint and a carefully curated material palette.
