A luxurious coastal family home in Wollongong, designed around the principle of less with more light — efficient, elegant, and full of coastal character.
Designed for a growing family, this luxurious coastal home has been meticulously planned around the clients' specific needs. Embracing the principle of "less with more light", the design achieves efficiency without compromising comfort, elegance, or coastal character.
A central courtyard and strategically positioned voids allow natural light to flow through the main living areas, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere. The material palette combines the natural beauty of limestone for the podium with crisp painted white horizontal cladding across the upper levels.
A defining feature is the twin gable facade, developed from the client's aesthetic brief. This detail connects the home with neighbouring bungalows and cottages while giving the residence a strong sense of charm and identity. Through precise planning, the building forms a series of crafted pavilion-like volumes that feel refined, elegant, and highly considered.
The concept delivers a contemporary two-storey coastal cottage, with sloped roofs that sit naturally within the surrounding environment. Spilling Rosmarinus officinalis 'Prostratus' and succulents soften the home's edges, adding greenery and strengthening the relaxed coastal atmosphere.
At the heart of the home is a sunken lounge with a fireplace, creating a warm and intimate family space for gathering, relaxing, and making lasting memories.
The result is an affordable yet luxurious coastal dwelling designed to support the family's needs for many years. It blends functionality, style, natural light, and detailed design into a refined coastal home.
